Who is Ralph Cleveland?
Seen by many as the father of PIA of Indiana, Ralph Cleveland started the R.L. Cleveland Insurance Agency in 1948. The agency, now known as Central Insurance Associates, resides just east of Keystone in Indianapolis.
Ralph Cleveland started to run what was then the Mutual Insurance Agents Association of Indiana from the glassed-in porch at his house during the Eisenhower years. His wife, Martha, took care of some of the duties as well, including book-keeping. She died just a few days before Ralph in 1999.
In an interview, Ralph remarked that the 13 years had actually been quite easy because "Martha did all the work."
Elected to the Professional Insurance Agents Hall of Fame in 1981, Ralph had also served on the board at Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Company since 1961.
